Brazilian Wax 101: What to Expect Before, During, and After

So, you’re considering a Brazilian wax, but you’re not really sure what to expect (besides the obvious). And since this is one of those things you can’t always bring up at a dinner party, you’ve decided to do your own due diligence. Smart! Knowing what to expect from this type of wax treatment can keep your nerves at bay. It also helps you prepare—and there are some important tips to know about before, during, and after treatment.

Getting real with a Brazilian wax in Nashville, TN, means you’ll have everything you need to sail right through like a boss. And you’ve come to the right place. The Wax House began as a specialized boutique for all things waxing. If you’re googling “Brazilian wax near me,” no one else in Nashville or Clarksville can equal our wax-related expertise or our friendly in-house vibe.

The Wax House is known for going above and beyond to make our clients feel as comfortable as possible. You can ask us anything about your desired service, and we’ll give you the full rundown. This is a place of true respect and no judgment. Have a question? Fire away.

Ready for your Brazilian 101? Let’s get comfy and proceed.

Brazilian Wax: The Before

If this is your first time getting a Brazilian wax, we’re going to be upfront right from the start: it’s no cakewalk. You’re about to get all your hair down there stripped off (or most of it anyway).  But here’s the good news: your first Brazilian wax will sting a bit, but your second one won’t be nearly as difficult or uncomfortable.

To help manage potential pain, we recommend you take an Ibuprofen 30 minutes before your appointment. This isn’t a rule (you do you), but for some of our clients, this little step is helpful. We also recommend you avoid alcohol or caffeine the day of your appointment because both can cause your pores to tighten, and this will make the wax procedure more painful.

To be a good candidate for a Brazilian, your hair should be at least ¼” long so the wax can grip properly. If it’s longer than ½”, it’s best to get a little trim.

A couple of days before your appointment, gently exfoliate the area with a washcloth or buffing mitt. This helps prevent ingrown hairs. On the day of your appointment, ensure you’re fresh and clean, and wear breathable cotton underwear for maximum post-wax comfort.

Brazilian Wax: The During

We recommend you arrive about 10 minutes before your appointment so you have time to check in and settle in.

Once you’re in your suite, your technician will ask you to undress from the waist down and hop on the table. From there, we’ll ask you about your preferences, including whether you want to include a bikini wax and/or a vajacial. Packaging your services means getting it done once and for all, for the next month to month-and-a-half (during which time you’ll feel absolutely amazing).

Once you’re ready and we’ve settled on whether we’re going the distance or leaving a shapely design, your technician will cleanse the area so the wax has a clean surface to cling to and will add a bit of powder to protect your skin.

Then, it’s time to get started! We use hard wax because it’s gentler on you than soft wax. This seems counterintuitive, but it’s true. Our technicians are highly skilled, so you can count on efficient service. We’re also careful to apply just the right number of strips for the most effective hair removal without dialing up the pain with too few or too many. All you need to do is relax, and before you know it, you’ll be waxed, smooth, and flawless.

Brazilian Wax: The After

Right after your wax treatment, your technician will apply some product formulated to soothe the area and offer a second barrier against ingrown hairs.

Later, if you’re feeling tender, we recommend applying hydrocortisone cream or a cold compress. Ask us about our in-house product line, including our soothing Cera Domus Hydrogel Vajacial Mask for the very highest levels of wax aftercare.

For the next 24 hours post-treatment, it’s important to avoid any strenuous activity. No working out and no sexual activity until any microtears have time to heal.

Also, for about a day or two, avoid soaking in a hot tub. Showering is fine, but a bath can cause increased irritation.

The Benefits of a Brazilian Wax at The Wax House

A Brazilian wax is one of the least irritating ways of removing hair (more counterintuitive science)! Waxing is much better than shaving and better than an epilator, both of which can cause bumps or a very uncomfortable rash.

When you book your Brazilian at The Wax House, you’re choosing the premier destination for aesthetics and self-care. We specialize in full-body waxing for women and men, as well as full-face waxing, brows, bikini waxes, Manzilians, and beard upkeep for him.
